UGA International Certificate Programs
UGA offers several certificate programs focused on promoting international learning and awareness through coursework and numerous non-academic opportunities. Certificate programs are operated by different departments on campus and have varying requirements. For more information about an individual certificate program, please contact the sponsoring center or department.
The Certificate in African Studies allows students to gain valuable and broadly applicable knowledge about Africa and numerous aspects of continental life. It requires 17 credit hours of approved language studies, African course content, and the mandatory Introduction to Africa course.

The Certificate in Asian Studies seeks to promote Asian studies and make students aware of the diversity of the Asian continent. The Certificate is an interdisciplinary, comparative program that includes the study of anthropology, international studies, language, and history. It requires 18 hours of coursework, including participation in a study abroad program and an exit paper.

The British and Irish Studies Certificate is for undergraduate students who have a significant interest in British and Irish Studies and would like to prepare for professional study in fields such as History, English, and International Law. It can also enhance the academic profile of students who wish to pursue higher-level studies or fellowships at British institutions.

The Cultural Capacity Certificate Program is available for undergraduates and graduates and allows students to “internationalize” their time at UGA. Students examine how culture impacts perceptions and identities and gain a sense of global awareness. Students attend approximately 18 seminar hours and complete an end-of-term project.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Global Health seeks to promote a greater understanding of the concept of “global health” among undergraduates. Students complete 18 hours of coursework and a relevant global health internship.
The Graduate Certificate in Global Health focuses on research and education for graduate students through coursework and field work.
Both certificates provide students with skills to solve global health problems, demonstrate the need for multi-disciplinary approaches to solving these problems, and give students the opportunity to apply their academic experience in a more formal setting through domestic or international work.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Global Studies provides students with a global perspective through coursework in language, cultural studies, global issues, and theories and methods of global studies. This certificate requires at least 30 semester hours.

The International Agriculture Certificate encourages undergraduate and graduate students to expand their global perspective through international internships, foreign language coursework, and relevant study of international agricultural and environmental topics. The certificate requires at least 23 credit hours.

This program, available only at the professional degree level, requires students to cultivate international veterinary learning experiences through an externship, foreign language proficiency, and completion of a special project under the guidance of a faculty advisor and mentor. Students who complete this certificate will receive certification alongside their doctorate.

This graduate certificate promotes knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean through interdisciplinary study of the region. Students must take five graduate-level courses with significant region-related content and demonstrate language competence in Spanish or Portuguese. They must also complete substantive research on a Latin American or Caribbean topic through a thesis or other written work.

Formerly known as the Study Abroad Certificate, the Global Education and Leadership Certificate is designed to promote participation in meaningful international learning through study abroad, overseas internships, workshops, and on-campus involvement with the Office of International Education. Unlike other certificates, the Global Education and Leadership Certificate does not require on-campus classes but focuses more on international experiences and cross-cultural communication.

A partnership between UGA and the Peace Corps Prep program, this certificate will allow students to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to potentially join and serve in the Peace Corps. While this certificate does not guarantee admission into the Peace Corps, it may strengthen the application of a potential volunteer. The Peace Corps Prep Certificate requires a combination of professional development, community outreach, relevant programmatic coursework, and foreign language skills.
